Abstract

September 2011, the city of Bandar Lampung experienced inflation. The foodstuffs group and the education, sports and recreation group make a very large contribution to the formation of inflation in the city of Bandar Lampung. Then successively followed by the transport, communications and financial services groups; housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel groups; prepared food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco groups; and health groups. Meanwhile, only one group made a negative contribution to inflation in September 2011, namely the clothing group. The increase in prices of various commodities in the six expenditure groups resulted in inflation in Bandar Lampung City of 0.75 percent.

In September 2011, six expenditure groups experienced an increase in the index which caused inflation, and only the clothing group experienced a decrease in the index. Inflation in Bandar Lampung City was ranked 13th out of 66 cities where price developments were observed. A total of 45 cities were observed experiencing inflation and 21 cities experiencing deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Singkawang at 1.53 percent, while the lowest inflation was in Bogor at 0.01 percent. Palu City experienced high deflation at 2.33 percent, while low deflation occurred in Sumenep City at 0.02 percent.

Based on the calculation of the consumer price index (CPI), inflation occurred due to an increase in the index in the education, recreation and sports group, up 5.56 percent; food ingredients group rose 1.22 percent; the transport, communications and financial services group rose 0.44 percent; housing, water, electricity, gas, fuel group rose 0.22 percent; health expenditure group rose 0.06 percent; the prepared food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco group rose 0.03 percent. The clothing group experienced a decline in the index of 0.21 percent.

Several commodities that dominantly contribute to inflation include rice, high school tuition fees, junior high school fees, cucumbers, red chilies, parking fees, spinach, kale, bricks, tomatoes. Calendar year (point to point) inflation in September 2011 was 3.59 percent, while year on year (yoy) inflation in Bandar Lampung City was 6.26 percent.
