November 2011, the city of Bandar Lampung experienced deflation. Food group; housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel groups; and the transport, communications and financial services groups contributed to the formation of deflation in the city of Bandar Lampung. Meanwhile, the three groups that contributed to curbing the rate of deflation in November 2011 were the clothing group; health group; and ready-made food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco groups. Changes in prices of various commodities in the six expenditure groups resulted in deflation in Bandar Lampung City of 0.19 percent.
Three expenditure groups in November 2011 experienced a decline in the index which caused deflation, three groups experienced an increase in the index, and only the education, recreation and sports group did not experience a change in the index. Inflation in Bandar Lampung City was ranked 56th out of 66 cities where price developments were observed. A total of 50 cities were observed experiencing inflation and 16 cities experiencing deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Mataram at 1.25 percent, while the lowest inflation was in Palembang at 0.02 percent. Pangkal Pinang City experienced high deflation at 1.19 percent, while low deflation occurred in Samarinda City at 0.03 percent.
Based on the calculation of the consumer price index (CPI), deflation occurred due to a decline in the index in the foodstuffs group, down 0.93 percent; the housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel group fell 0.03 percent; and the transport, communications and financial services group fell 0.01 percent. Meanwhile, the groups that experienced an increase in the index were the clothing group, which rose 0.87 percent; health group rose 0.28 percent; and the prepared food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco group rose 0.05 percent.
Several commodities that dominantly contributed to deflation include mackerel, cucumber, spinach, shallots, water spinach, goldfish, anchovies, trevally, green mustard greens and cooking oil. Inflation for the calendar year (point to point) in November 2011 was 4.04 percent, while year on year (yoy) inflation in Bandar Lampung City was 4.84 percent.
