March 2012, Bandar Lampung City experienced deflation again. Food group; clothing group; and education, recreation and sports groups, contributed to the formation of deflation in Bandar Lampung City. Meanwhile, the groups that contributed to holding back the rate of deflation in March 2012 were the ready-made food, beverage, cigarette and tobacco groups; transport, communications and financial services group; housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel groups; and health groups. Changes in prices of various commodities in the seven expenditure groups resulted in deflation in Bandar Lampung City of 0.21 percent.
Three expenditure groups in March 2012 experienced a decline in the index which caused deflation and four other groups experienced an increase in the index which restrained the rate of deflation. Deflation in Bandar Lampung City was ranked 48th out of 66 cities where price developments were observed. Of the 66 cities, 34 cities were observed to experience inflation, the highest inflation occurred in Ambon at 1.33 percent, while the lowest inflation was in Malang at 0.01 percent. And 32 other cities experienced deflation, the highest deflation was in Jayapura at 1.44 percent and the lowest was in Pekanbaru at 0.03 percent.
Based on the calculation of the consumer price index (CPI), deflation occurred due to a decline in the index in the foodstuffs group, down 1.54 percent; clothing group fell 0.41 percent; and the education, recreation and sports group fell 0.22 percent. Meanwhile, the groups that experienced an increase in the index were the processed food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco groups, which rose 0.90 percent; the transport, communications and financial services group rose 0.27 percent; health group rose 0.17 percent; and the housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel group fell 0.09 percent.
Several commodities that dominantly contributed to deflation include rice, vegetable tomatoes, purebred chicken eggs, fresh squid, sand, gold jewelry, cooking/vegetable flavourings, coconuts, fresh trevally fish, and lined notebooks. Calendar year (point to point) inflation in March 2012 in Bandar Lampung City was 0.31 percent, while year on year (yoy) inflation in March 2012 was 3.42 percent.
