The city of Bandar Lampung, December 2012 experienced inflation after experiencing deflation the previous month. There are four expenditure groups that contribute to the formation of inflation in Bandar Lampung City, namely the foodstuffs group; prepared food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco groups; clothing group; and health groups. Five other groups are holding back the rate of inflation, namely the housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel groups; educational, recreational, and sports groups; and the transport, communications and financial services group. Changes in prices of various commodities in the seven expenditure groups formed inflation in Bandar Lampung City of 0.66 percent.
Four expenditure groups in December 2012 experienced an increase in the index which caused inflation. Inflation in Bandar Lampung City was ranked 23rd out of 66 cities where price developments were observed. Of the 66 cities, all experienced inflation. The highest inflation occurred in Jayapura at 2.57 percent, while the lowest inflation occurred in Kendari at 0.02 percent.
Based on the calculation of the Consumer Price Index (CPI), inflation in Bandar Lampung City occurred due to an increase in the index in the foodstuffs group which rose 1.84 percent; prepared food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco groups rose 0.80 percent; health group rose 0.09 percent; and the clothing group rose 0.08 percent. Meanwhile, the two groups that held back the rate of inflation, namely the housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel groups, fell 0.10 percent; and the education, recreation and sports group fell by 0.03 percent. Meanwhile, the transport, communications and financial services groups did not experience changes in the index.
Several commodities that dominantly contribute to inflation include rice, noodles, spinach, fresh mackerel, beef, porridge, shallots, cucumbers, oranges and kale. Calendar year inflation (point to point) and year on year (yoy) inflation in December 2012 in Bandar Lampung City was 4.30 percent.
