In June 2012, the city of Bandar Lampung experienced inflation like the previous month. Food group; prepared food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco groups; housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel groups; clothing group; health group; and education, recreation and sports groups contribute to the formation of inflation in Bandar Lampung City. Meanwhile, the transport, communication and financial services groups did not contribute to inflation in June 2012. The increase in prices of various commodities in these six expenditure groups resulted in inflation in Bandar Lampung City of 0.79 percent.
In June 2012, six expenditure groups experienced an increase in the index which caused inflation and one other group did not experience a change in the index. Inflation in Bandar Lampung City was ranked 26th out of 66 cities where price developments were observed. Of the 66 cities, all experienced inflation, high inflation occurred in Ambon at 2.39 percent, Manokwari at 2.05 percent, and Sibolga at 2.02 percent, while low inflation occurred in Bima at 0.07 percent and Pontianak at 0.13 percent.
Based on the calculation of the Consumer Price Index (CPI), inflation occurred due to an increase in the index in the foodstuffs group, up 2.18 percent; the prepared food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco group rose 0.71 percent; health group rose 0.22 percent; clothing group rose 0.21 percent; the housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel group rose 0.11 percent; and the education, recreation and sports group rose by 0.09 percent. Meanwhile, the groups that did not experience changes in the index were the transportation, communications and financial services groups.
Several commodities that dominantly contribute to inflation include garlic, red chilies, sweet bread, granulated sugar, fresh squid, tomatoes, oranges, purebred chicken meat, purebred chicken eggs and fruit tomatoes. Calendar year (point to point) inflation for June 2012 in Bandar Lampung City was 1.67 percent, while year on year (yoy) inflation for June 2012 was 4.66 percent.
