January 2012, the city of Bandar Lampung experienced inflation. Food group; housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel groups; and the ready-made food, beverage, cigarette and tobacco groups, contribute to the formation of inflation in the city of Bandar Lampung. Meanwhile, the groups that contributed to holding back the rate of inflation in January 2012 were the clothing group and the health group. Changes in prices of various commodities in the five expenditure groups formed inflation in Bandar Lampung City of 0.63 percent.
Three expenditure groups in January 2012 experienced an increase in the index which caused inflation, two groups experienced a decrease in the index, and two groups experienced no change in the index. Inflation in Bandar Lampung City was ranked 35th out of 66 cities where price developments were observed. Of the 66 cities, 62 cities were observed to experience inflation, the highest inflation occurred in Banjarmasin at 2.92 percent, while the lowest inflation was in Banda Aceh at 0.02 percent. And 4 other cities experienced deflation, the highest deflation was in Sorong at 0.38 percent and the lowest was in Manado at 0.13 percent.
Based on the calculation of the consumer price index (CPI), inflation occurred due to an increase in the index in the foodstuffs group, up 1.50 percent; housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel group rose 0.88 percent; the prepared food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco group rose 0.13 percent. Meanwhile, the groups that experienced a decline in the index were the clothing group, which fell 0.16 percent and the health group, which fell 0.21 percent. Meanwhile, the education, recreation and sports group and the transport, communication and financial services group did not experience changes in the index.
Several commodities that dominantly contribute to inflation include house contracts, rice, pikulan drinking water rates, fresh squid, tomatoes, cucumbers, fresh mackerel, purebred chicken, fresh trevally and water spinach. Calendar year inflation (point to point) is the same as January 2012 inflation, namely 0.63 percent, while year on year (yoy) inflation in January 2012 was 4.03 percent.
